2018 Home Design Trends

Menno S. Martin 2017 Kitchen Renovation

2018 has arrived meaning there are all kinds of new home design and decorating trends that you can incorporate into your personal home style. Whether you are interested in overhauling your entire home or just want to add in a few fresh updates, here are our note-worthy home design trends for 2018.

So Long White Kitchens

Stark white kitchens are on the way out (for now) and bright colours, moody palettes and black are about to steal the spotlight. Expect to see a lot more blue hues and navy on kitchen islands and walls. Backsplashes will feature more graphic and colourful patterns and furniture and accessories will be brighter and bolder. We also expect to see a lot of matte black accessories and appliances finishing off those styled kitchens.

Spa-Inspired Bathrooms

Even if you can’t escape to a luxury hotel, you can still have a resort-inspired bathroom of your own. Toilets are going high-tech with seat warmers and automatic lid features. Brass and gold textures are also making a comeback, and mixed metals are especially hot for 2018. Stand alone tubs, wet rooms in place of showers and the addition of soft furnishings, chic lighting and furniture-inspired storage shift the role of the bathroom from a practical space, to another beautiful living space in your home.

Closet Overhauls

Maximize space and function with a clever closet design that is both beautiful and full of storage and organizational features. Adding drawers provides an out-of-sight organizational option and double hanging makes use of vertical space. Back wall accenting can also be incorporated with wood panelling, wallpaper or paint making your closet Instagram worthy.

Bold Statement Ceilings

Statement ceilings are going to be everywhere in home design magazines and blogs for 2018. They have the ability to transform an entire room, from top to bottom and can be achieved with all kinds of finishes like paint, wallpaper, wood, exposed beams, metal and more!
